Weekend Guide To Golden Bear Athletics

MONTGOMERY, West Virginia - WVU Tech swimming and cross country will be participating in meets Friday to continue their 2014-15 seasons. The weekend also feautures a home volleyball match-up vs. the University of Cincinnati-Clermont and a women's soccer game at Bluefield College (Virginia).

FRIDAY - OCTOBER 24
Swimming at Fairmont Invite - 1:00 p.m.
Men's and women's swimming will participate in the Fairmont Invite hosted by Fairmont State University. The meet in Fairmont, West Virginia marks their fourth of the young season.

Last week, men's swimming team dueled King University (Tennessee) to a 88-70 finish with the Golden Bears finishing on top. For the women, Freshman Kendra Monnin topped all events competed in but the Golden Bears fell short to King University (Tennessee) with a final score of 88-70.

Cross Country at 2014 Cedarville Open - 4:00 p.m.
The meet in Cedarville, Ohio is the fifth meet the Golden Bears have participated in and the last before they head to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Nationals in Syracuse, New York November 7.

Tech will be running at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course for the meet, hosted by Cedarville University. The course is constructed on 150 acres of property, allowing the athletes to run entirely on a grass course that includes rolling hills.

SATURDAY - OCTOBER 25
Men's Soccer vs. Virginia Western Community College - CANCELLED
The men's soccer game in Beckley, West Virginia against Virginia Western Community College has been cancelled. The Golden Bears boast a 14-1-1 record and nine-game win streak as they head into the 2014 United States Collegiate Athletic Conference (USCAA) National Championships scheduled for November 5-8.

WVU Tech will be hosting for the second consecutive year and the men will be defending their National title in Charleston, West Virginia.

Volleyball vs. University of Cincinnati-Clermont - 2:00 p.m.
The Golden Bears are 6-24 this season and will be facing UCC for the second time in 2014. Tech fell to Clermont on Sept. 6, 3-1. Sophomore Keyonna Morrow (12), senior Haley Pauley (12) and junior Jacque Carroll (11) led the team with kills in their first match-up.

Women's Soccer at Bluefield College (Virginia) - 7:00 p.m.
After a ten day break from competition, the Golden Bears will head to Bluefield, Virginia to face the Rams of Bluefield College. Tech holds a record of 3-6-2 after a 5-0 shutout over Penn State Beaver Oct. 15.

Freshman Tristen Kilman, Golden Bear Star Peformer (Oct. 15-21), netted her first collegiate goal which quickly turned into her first career hat trick against Penn State Beaver. Fellow classmate, Tyler Graves, marked two goals in the win to take her total to three goals this season.

The team will be celebrating their seniors, Sierrah Soto, Yehilin Davila, Ashley Collins and Creshana Jones, Monday Oct. 27, 7:00 p.m. during halftime when they face Georgetown College (Kentucky) at Schoenbaum Soccer Complex (Coonskin Park).
