MONTGOMERY, West Virginia - The WVU Tech women's basketball team dropped their season and home opener to the University of Pikeville, 91-85, Thursday night at the Baisi Athletic Center.
It was the first regular season game of the year for the Golden Bears, now marking an 0-1 record.

Rocio Ruiz-Berdejo made a basket off of senior
Nia Nolan's assist, but UPIKE gained the lead back with 5:19 left en route to the six-point defeat.
Nolan scored a game-high 26 points for the Golden Bears while dishing seven assists and grabbing three rebounds. Ruiz-Berdejo followed with 10 points while junior
Cheyanna Lusk, senior
Roche Wimberly and freshman
Janee Harris had nine a piece.
Wimberly led the team with nine boards while Lusk produced seven. Lusk also nabbed six steals.
Tech outrebounded Pikeville 44-38 including 23 offensive rebounds. The Golden Bears were able to force 20 turnovers, scoring 27 points on the miscues.
The Golden Bears shot 34-for-82 (41.5 percent) compared to the Bears who shot 32-for-58 (55.2 percent) from the field. UPIKE also outperformed Tech from the foul line going 21-for-32 (65.6 percent) as opposed to 12-for-22 (54.5 percent) for WVU Tech.
WVU Tech will continue their season on the road, Nov. 1 vs. Point Park University. Tip-off is scheduled for at 6:00 p.m. for Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
