VIENNA, West Virginia - On a surprisingly cold November evening, the WVU Tech wrestlers traveled to Vienna, West Virginia for the first dual of their annual home and home series with Ohio Valley University. The Golden Bears' streak of three consecutive wins against the Fighting Scots came to an end by a score of 26-15, bringing the team's record to 6-2.
The team's best performance was by sophomore
Colton Rowe, who stayed unbeaten on the season, moving to 7-0. Rowe had a tough go of it though, his typical techniques not really working as they had so far this season and had to go back to the basics, scoring on a pair of double legs to give him his 5-1 margin of victory.
The rest of the teams points were earned via forfeits, to freshman
TJ Bean at 125 and sophomore
Aaron Wallace at 184 lbs.,
Said junior co-captain
Dirk Ponchak after the dual, "we were flat tonight. We didn't hand fight like we need to, we didn't attack as often as we should have and we gave up too many big points. I'm guilty of it, and we need to get better before this weekend. It is only mid-November, we have plenty of time to fix problems, but we need to accept that we aren't as good as we think we are, be humble and grow from tonight."
WVU Tech hits the road this weekend for the McDaniel Green Terror Duals in Westminster, Maryland, November 22.
