MONTGOMERY, West Virginia - The WVU Tech men's basketball team lost its first game of the season to Washington Adventist University, 89-87 Saturday night in the final game of the Neal D. Baisi Classic. The loss puts Tech's record to 6-1 on the season while the Shock improve to 4-3 in 2014.
The Golden Bears were led by senior forward
Jauries Thomas, who scored a game-high 25 points on 11-for-14 shooting from the field and a 2-for-3 performance from the foul line. Thomas, who also passed out five assists, grabbed the double-double with another game-high of 13 points while putting down a game-high four blocks.
The Gold and Blue's second offensive weapon Saturday evening was junior guard
Eddie Gordon, who poured in 15 points in 25 minutes. Senior center
Sharife Sergeant marked his third consecutive double-double and fourth of the season with 13 points and 10 boards.

Leon Cooper, Jr. chipped in 12 points, two assists and a steal and a rebound each. Sophomore point guard
Ra'Shaud Kincaid added eight points while dishing a team-high seven assists.
As a team, Tech shot 53.8 percent (35-for-65) from the field, 52.4 percent (11-for-21) from three-point territory and 50.0 percent (6-for-12) from the foul line.
Washington Adventist was paced by Tyrus Fleetwood, tournament Most Valuable Player (MVP), with 20 points in the victory.
WVU Tech athletic director Kenny Howell and Neal D. Baisi's grandson, Patrick Baisi, presented all-tournament and Academic Excellence Awards to finish out the Baisi Classic. For the men's team Sergeant, Gordon and Thomas were recognized for the all-tournament team and Cooper received the Academic Excellence Award.
The Golden Bears will look to continue their season Tuesday at Point Park University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Action is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
