Tech Rolls to 6-0 Win in USCAA National Championships

CHARLESETON, West Virginia - The men's soccer team of WVU Tech is the No. 2 seed in the 2014 United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Championships Tournament and proved their ranking Thursday evening. The Golden Bears earned their tenth straight win with a 6-0 shutout over the University of Maine at Machias.

The Golden Bears outshined their opponent in shots, 20-2 and corner kicks, 11-3. Defense for Tech worked hard to contribute to the win, allowing just two shots in the first 45 minutes of play.

In the first half, tournament host WVU Tech, stopped the clock due to goals scored, three times. Sophomore Prince Idornigie gave the team the initial lead in the 24th minute off an assist from junor Joaquin Rodriguez.

Less then a minute later, senior Glenroy Miller converted on the perfect pass from Idornigie to find the back of the net and take the score to 2-0. Freshman Joao Gigli strengthened Tech's lead with a score before halftime after a dish from freshman Miguel Casado who marked the assist.

Rounding out the scorers for Tech include Rodriguez (54'), freshman Sven Biansumba (57') and sophomore Tobee Oleyele (89'). Sophomore Drew Lytton recorded the assist in the 54th minute while junior Sam Laughton found Biansumba for the assist.

Freshman goalkeeper Pol Bernaldo is credited with the shutout victory and one save.
