RESULTS
MONTGOMERY, West Virginia - WVU Tech wrestling hosted Ohio Valley University in the Baisi Athletic Center for a redemption match-up Wednesday evening and succeeded. The Golden Bears defeated the Fighting Scots, 31-20 and celebrated senior
Dirk Ponchak on Senior Night in the Baisi Athletic Center to boost their dual record to 9-4. Tech fell to Ohio Valley November 18, 26-15.
Freshman
Curtis Cox started the action off with a fall in just 4:53 for the 133 lb. weight class, fellow classmate
TJ Bean picked up six team points prior to that at 125 with a forfeit win.
At 157, junior
Conrad Lacey also won by fall in the second period over OVU's Eli Stewart. Sophomore
Bryan Overton wrestled at 174 and grabbed the victory by decision, 6-5. Sophomore
Wyatt Norfolk picked up a win by forfeit at 285.
Ponchak won his match-up at 165 by forfeit. The McConnelsville, Ohio native has achieved the school record for tournament victories, having won six invitational tournaments as a Golden Bear including the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Championship in 2014. Ponchak currently has the highest winning percentage in school history with a career record of 64-14.
The Golden Bears return to the mat when they head to St. Andrews Presbyterian College February 5 in Laurinburg, North Carolina.
