Tech Wins Third Straight, Five Golden Bears Score in Double-Figures

Newport News, Virginia - WVU Tech women's basketball is riding a three-game win streak after a 99-92 victory over Newport News Apprentice School Saturday afternoon. The Golden Bears had five players score in double-digits and boost their record to 9-13, the Builders fall to 11-8.

The game featured 20 lead changes and 15 tied scores. The Golden Bears held their largest lead in the second half with 1:29 left in the game, 92-84. The Builders gained their biggest lead in the first half with 4:54 left, 35-31.

Senior Nia Nolan led the scoring efforts for Tech with 20 points, including an 8-for-11 effort at the free throw line, while dishing a team-high eight assists. Junior Cheyanne Lusk was just one rebound short of a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. Lusk also had two steals and assists.

Freshman Rocio Ruiz-Berdejo pulled down a career- and game-high 17 rebounds while posting 11 points for the double-double. Rounding out the top offensive contributors for Tech were senior Noelani Woodson and junior Courtney Fisher with 10 points apiece. Fisher had eight rebounds while Woodson recorded three assists.

As a team, the Golden Bears went 40-for-86 (46.5 percent) from the field while shooting 55.6 percent (15-for-27) from the foul line. Tech held advantages over the Builders in rebounds (63-41), second chance points (33-23), bench points (37-15), points in the paint (54-40) and fast break points (14-13).

Tech will play again tomorrow, Sunday, when they head to Takoma Park, Maryland to take on Washington Adventist University. The Golden Bears defeated the Shock earlier this week (Monday), 73-51.
