MONTGOMERY, West Virginia — The WVU Tech women's basketball team grabbed a victory Thursday evening with a 76-60 win in the Baisi Athletic Center versus Newport News Apprentice School. The triumph improves Tech's record to 5-7 while the Builders drop to 3-7.
Tech shot their second season-best with a 48.5 percent (34-for-70) from the floor offensively and the 60 points allowed were the third-lowest this season for the Golden Bears on the defensive end.
Freshman
Savannah Shamblin posted a game-high 16 points towards her double-double effort capped off by ten assists. Shamblin also marked three steals and rebounds. Fellow classmate
Alexandra Combs registered a career-high with 15 points to go with three steals.
Freshman
Breanna Propst had a career day, scoring a career-best 12 points while pulling down a game- and career-high nine rebounds. The Saint Albans, West Virgnia native also grabbed a game- and career-high four steals.
Sophomore
Brett Justice had 12 points on 6-for-9 shooting and four offensive rebounds for the Gold and Blue. Seniors
Courtney Fisher and
LaKisha Adkins contributed with seven and five points respectively. Fisher had eight rebounds while Adkins posted six.
Ylexzis Traeger scored 15 points in the losing effort to lead the Builders.
The Golden Bears will look for a second consecutive win when they return home to host Indiana University Southeast Saturday, December 19 for the KIAC Game of the Week.
