RICHMOND, Indiana — The WVU Tech men's basketball team, voted No. 19 in the NAIA DII Coaches' Top 25 Poll today, fell to No. 25 Indiana University East in the KIAC Game of the Week Tuesday evening, snapping their five-game winning streak.
The Golden Bears are now 7-4, 1-1 (KIAC) this season while the Red Wolves hold a record of 8-4, 2-0 (KIAC).
Sophomore guard
Ryan Atkins continued his outstanding play for Tech, scoring a game-high 31 points on 12-for-22 shooting from the field while going 6-for-7 from the foul line. Tuesday's game marked the fifth time this season the Miami, Florida native has scored at least 20 points. Atkins also pulled down eight rebound to go with a steal and an assist.
Junior guard
Paul Stone posted his fifth double-double of the season, contributing with 21 points and a game-high ten rebounds. Junior point guard
Ra'Shaud Kincaid added 12 points while dishing a team-high five assists and pulling down three defensive rebounds.
Junior center
Patrick Gnagbo is now ranked No. 12 in the NAIA DII in offensive rebounds per game (3.6) after posting five in this match-up towards nine total. Gnagbo also scored eight points for Tech. Senior guard
Eddie Gordon was also strong on the offensive boards, pulling down four.
For the game, the Gold and Blue shot 41.9 percent (31-for-74) from the field and 77.8 percent (14-for-18) from the free throw line. Tech held advantages in rebounds (43-31), second chance points (15-4), bench points (33-8) and points in the paint (44-28). The Red Wolves were able to force 11 turnovers while committing nine themselves.
IU East was led by Huston Clark who scored 26 points.
WVU Tech will look to return to its winning ways when play host for the Baisi Classic Saturday and Sunday in Montgomery, West Virginia. Tech will welcome Bethel University, Washington Adventist University and the University of the Cumberlands for a total of four games over the weekend.
