MONTGOMERY, West Virginia - The WVU Tech men's basketball team ended its season with an 87-83 loss against top-seeded Cal State San Marcos Saturday in the Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Division I Championship. Tech finish the year 23-9 overall, winning seven contests in the final 10 of their 2014-15 campaign.
The Golden Bears fell to the Cougars, recently ranked third in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) DI Coaches' Poll, last season in the semi-finals of the A.I.I. tournament, 77-70.
Five Golden Bears scored in double-figures, including a double-double effort from senior
Jauries Thomas with 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, including seven offensive boards.
Senior
Sharife Sergeant recorded a team-high 17 points with seven rebounds, going a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range while also blocking a game-high four Cougar balls. Fellow classmate
Leon Cooper, Jr. had 14 points, a game-high eight assists and three rebounds.
Junior
Eddie Gordon went 3-for-5 from the three-point line, posting 13 points and sophomore
Ra'Shaud Kincaid finished with 11 points and six assists.
Senior
Jaren Marino pulled down 10 boards, seven offensive to go with seven points, four assists and two blocks for Tech.
For the game, Tech shot 41.3 percent (33-for-80) from the field and hit 45.5 percent (15-for-33) of its three-pointers.
The Cougars and the game were led by A.I.I. Player of the Year, Blake Nash with 34 points while the team shot 50.9 percent (28-for-55) from the field.
WVU Tech landed three Golden Bears on the A.I.I. All-Tournament team, Thomas, Sergeant and Gordon.
Junior Cheyanne Lusk of Tech women's basketball was also named to the A.I.I. DI Women's All-Tournament team. A full list of the all-tournament teams can be found at
