EAST BANK, West Virginia - The WVU Tech baseball team defeated Bluefield State College with a 15-2 victory Thursday afternoon. The Golden Bears improve to 23-19 while the Big Blues fall to 8-24 after this match-up at Douglas M. Epling Field in East Bank, West Virginia.
The Golden Bears out hit Bluefield State 17-11. Of the eight Tech players with hits, five had a multi-hit game including junior
Dylan Harvey who went 4-for-5 at the plate with three runs scored, two RBI, two stolen bases and a double.
Juniors
Hugo Rodriguez and
Xavier Barriere finished with three hits and an RBI each. Rodriguez registered three runs scored, two stolen bases, a sacrifice fly and an RBI. Barriere had one of each, a RBI, run scored, double and stolen base.
Junior
Carlos Diaz and sophomore
Trevor Lam had two hits each including a home run from Lam for Tech's first run of the day while Diaz had a game-high three RBI, a sacrifice fly and a stolen base.
On the mound sophomore
Austin Southcott (6-0) recorded the win, pitching the first 5.0 innings of play, striking out 11 batters while giving up six hits.
Tech will head to Circleville, Ohio to face Ohio Christian University, ready to hit the field tomorrow, Friday at 1:00 p.m. for doubleheader action.
