Stone Scores 37, WVU Tech Falls at Davis & Elkins

Men's Basketball

ELKINS, West Virginia — Junior guard Paul Stone led all scorers in a 98-88 defeat for the WVU Tech men's basketball team against NCAA DII Davis & Elkins College with 37 points. Stone produced a double-double by recording a new career-high in points and pulling down 12 rebounds Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.

The Golden Bears now hold an overall record of 9-6 while the Senators are 5-7.

As part of his 37-point output, Stone shot 16-for-21 (76 percent) from the field and the double-double was his team-leading seventh of the season. The Danville, Virginia native also blocked two Senator shots to bring his total to 17 for 2015-16 while dishing three assists and grabbing one steal.

Sophomore guard Ryan Atkins posted 25 points, seven rebounds and a team-high four assists. Atkins has scored at least 21 points in Tech's last five contests while him and Stone has hit double figures in all but one game this season.

Sophomore forward Juwuan Wilson pulled down six boards to go with five points while fellow forward, junior Patrick Gnagbo finished with four rebounds. Senior point guard Ra'Shaud Kincaid rounded out the top offensive contributors with eight points and three assists.

As a team, Tech shot 33-for-64 (51.6 percent) from the field compared to their opponent's 32-for-66 (48.5 percent) effort. The Gold and Blue also held advantages in rebounds (40-33), second chance points (48-27) and points in the paint (48-27). The Senators shot an efficient 13-for-23 (56.5 percent) from three point range to top Tech's 7-for-21 (33.3 percent) shooting from the arc.

The team will next host Washington Adventist University in the Baisi Athletic Center Saturday, January 9. The Golden Bears fell to the Shock earlier this season 76-70 (December 5).
