WVU Tech Volleyball Sweeps Saturday in RSC Battles

CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio -- WVU Tech volleyball has moved to .500 (5-5) in River States Conference (RSC) play and 17-12 overall after earning five-set battles over Indiana University East and Ohio Christian University Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Bears first defeated the Red Wolves with scores of 25-23, 24-26, 28-26, 15-25 and 15-12 before taking the match from the Trailblazers 25-23, 22-25, 20-25, 25-19 and 17-15.

Tech is now third in the standings for the East Division of the RSC. Point Park University is in first with a conference record of 9-1 while the University of Rio Grande holds the second spot with a record of 6-3.

Match One | WVU Tech 3, IU East 2

Senior Keyonna Morrow led the offense for Tech with 16 kills while also producing three digs and two block assists. Junior Bailey Lotozo also added to the offense with 13 kills while picking up six digs.

Freshman Konstantina Pateli handled the ball for a team-high 34 assists to go with nine digs, four block assists, three kills and a service ace.

On defense, both senior Michala Dean and sophomore Ana Monteiro ended with 22 digs while Monteiro also posted seven kills and two service aces.

Match Two | WVU Tech 3, Ohio Christian 2

Monteiro and Lotozo marked 15 kills each to lead the match and Morrow finished with 13 kills in the win.

Pateli led the match with 44 assists while posting 13 digs, two kills and a service ace.

As libero, Dean picked up 34 digs while Monteiro had 21 digs. Freshmen Roytihala Brown and Alice Amitrano also produced big on defense, grabbing 15 and 14 digs resepectively.

The Gold and Blue will take a break from conference play when they travel to Alice Lloyd College Tuesday, October 18 for a 7 p.m. match.
