Men's Soccer

RIO GRANDE, Ohio — The WVU Tech men's soccer team, who is currently No. 9 in the NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll, fell to No. 3 University of Rio Grande in the River States Conference (RSC) Final Saturday evening, 2-1.

The Golden Bears, who entered the conference tournament as the No. 2 seed, have a record of 17-1-2 this season and the No. 1 seed RedStorm are 18-1-1.

Tech struck first in the match-up, posting a goal from junior Francisco Neto off the assist of senior Daniel Ramirez in the 25th minute. The teams' defense then held each other scoreless the rest of the half.

Rio's equalizer came with 38:07 left to play, following that up with the winning goal in the 63rd minute.

Tech finished with five shots, two on goal while the RedStorm managed 16 shots, six on goal in their victory. Freshman Eduardo Gutierrez marked the second shot on goal for the Gold and Blue.

Senior goalkeeper Hunter Moles stopped four balls and allowed two goals in 90 minutes of play.

The team will find out next week who they will face in the NAIA National Tournament.
