MONTGOMERY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech women's basketball defeated Newport News Apprentice School Thursday evening, 71-65. The Golden Bears move to 9-4 this season while the Builders fall to 3-8.
Sophomore
Savannah Shamblin led the game with 15 points including perfect 6-for-6 shooting from the foul line. Senior
Cheyanna Lusk finished with three made from beyond the arc towards her 14 points.
Junior
Brett Justice pulled down a team-high seven rebounds to go with four points while sophomore
Alexandra Combs had seven points and six boards. Junior
Melissa Bakowski had a team-high three assists, five rebounds and four points.
The teams were even at 35 percent shooting from the field while the Builders held advantages in rebounds (46-44), forced miscues (22-20) and second chance points (14-11).
The Gold and Blue will return to River States Conference play Saturday in the Baisi Athletic Center when they host No. 21 Indiana University East. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
