Women's Basketball Streak Snapped, Falls to Point Park

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania -- WVU Tech women's basketball was riding a seven-game winning streak but it was snapped Saturday afternoon after falling to Point Park University, 71-54, in River States Conference (RSC) play. The Golden Bears now hold a record of 7-4, 1-1 (RSC) and the Pioneers improve to 11-1, 2-0 (RSC).

Tech had a one-point lead (14-13) entering the second quarter but Point Park managed a 22-4 run and didn't look back. The Gold and Blue trailed as much as 23 points in the third quarter and closed the lead to 13 points to begin the final ten minutes. Point Park was able to keep the gap at double-digits and took the RSC contest, 71-54.

Junior Zjhane West earned her first double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds to go with a team-high five assists. Six of West's boards were on the offensive end of the floor.

Senior Cheyanna Lusk posted a game-high 15 points for the Golden Bears, also marking two steals, an assist and a rebound. Freshman Logan Dudley was the next leading scorer for Tech, going 3-for-5 from the floor for six points while pulling down four rebounds.

Senior Brooke Gee grabbed seven rebounds, four offensive, while sophomore Alexandra Combs had six and freshman Carlie Biehl-Wilson pulled down five. Gee, Combs and Biehl-Wilson had four points each.

As a team, Tech shot 31.5 percent (23-for-73) from the field, 11.8 percent (2-for-17) from three-point range and were perfect (6-for-6) from the bonus line. The Pioneers combined for 42.9 percent (27-for-63) shooting from the field, 33.3 percent (9-for-27) from beyond the arc and 80.0 percent (8-for-10) from the foul line.

WVU Tech held advantages in rebounds (46-40), points off turnovers (6-2), second chance points (14-2) and points in the paint (24-22). Point Park bested the Golden Bears in bench points (23-17) and forced miscues (12-11).

Up next, Tech will host Ohio Christian University Tuesday, December 13 in the Baisi Athletic Center to continue RSC play.
