MONTGOMERY, West Virginia — Sophomore
Ryan Atkins led all scorers with 33 points and just missed a triple-double with 15 rebounds and eight assists as the WVU Tech defense held Alice Lloyd College to 34.4 percent (22-for-64) from the field. The Golden Bears (15-10, 7-5 KIAC) cruised to a 75-55 win over the Eagles (12-10, 8-4 KIAC) in conference play Saturday afternoon.
Tech used a solid defensive effort to jump out to a 27-22 lead at the break as the Golden Bears forced Alice Lloyd to commit nine turnovers in the first half while limiting the Eagles to just 29.6 percent (8-for-27) from the field.
Three WVU Tech players scored in double figures in the win, led by Atkins, who was 13-for-18 from the field while going 7-for-11 from the foul line in the victory.
Senior Eddie Gordon had 11 points while junior Paul Stone added ten points. Junior Hunter Moles pulled down the team's second-best eight rebounds while pouring in four points to go with three assists and a team-high three blocks.
Tech will return to action on Tuesday, February 9 when they travel to Brescia University for an 8 p.m. tipoff.
