EAST BANK, West Virginia — The WVU Tech baseball team has earned a new program record as they increased their winning streak to 13 after a doubleheader sweep of Brescia University in East Bank, West Virginia. The record was previously held by the 2013 squad where they posted 11 consecutive victories.
The Golden Bears stay perfect in KIAC play (6-0) and hold an overall record of 14-2 while the Bearcats fall to 5-14, 0-2 (KIAC) after scores of 10-1 and 7-1 Friday afternoon.
The wins on the mound were credited to starters junior
Austin Southcott and senior
Josh Hudson. Southcott moved to a perfect 3-0 on the bump after his victory in game one while Hudson picked up his third W this season in the night cap.
At the plate, junior
Sebastian Gomez Herrera was 3-for-4 while fellow classmate
Brady Groesbeck finished 3-for-3 in game one to lead the Gold and Blue. In the final game of the day, junior
Marcus Rodriguez had a standout game, going 3-for-3 at the plate including a walk.

GAME ONE | WVU Tech 10, Brescia 1 | Box ScoreSouthcott faced 25 batters in 6.0 innings of work in the 10-1 victory. The son of Kate and Chris Southcott struck out eight Bearcats while scattering six hits and one earned run.
Herrera posted a double and produced a RBI off a single to left center in the bottom of the second while Groesbeck finished with two runs scored and a RBI.
Senior
Tommy Weaver drove in two runs with his single to left center, bringing in senior
Dylan Harvey and Rodriguez.
Harvey and junior
Tanner Levine grabbed two stolen bases while Weaver had one.

Rodriguez and Levine both recorded a double while scoring a run each for Tech. Levine also drove in a run off a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning, bringing in Harvey for the score.
Hudson struck out two batters while giving up just one earned run and three hits. Senior
Brandon Tucker and junior
Hunter Greco both saw an inning of action on the mound, retiring two opponents each.
The Golden Bears will look to take the series sweep as they host Brescia for two games at the Douglas M. Epling field in East Bank, West Virginia again tomorrow, Saturday. The first pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
