EAST BANK, West Virginia — WVU Tech baseball was able to capture a win in game one of four against KIAC foe University of Rio Grande after 12 innings Saturday afternoon. The Golden Bears (32-12, 19-6 KIAC) defeated the RedStorm (26-20, 12-9 KIAC) 5-4 to increase their winning streak to 14 in one of the KIAC Games of the Week.

Sebastian Gomez Herrera delivered the game-winning hit in the bottom of the 12
th as he singled through the left side and plated fellow classmate
Tanner Levine and senior
Dylan Harvey.
Junior
Brady Groesbeck drove in Tech's first score in the third inning off a sacrifice fly that drove in freshman
Roy Suzuki.
The team's second run came off another sac fly, this time from senior
Josh Hudson who hit to center field to bring in Levine.
Groesbeck picked up two RBI in the bottom of the seventh when the San Diego, California native doubled to left field scoring Harvey and senior
Tommy Weaver.
Groesbeck finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, sac hit, sac fly and three RBI to lead the Gold and Blue.
Levine and Suzuki each recorded a triple while Groesbeck and Herrera marked doubles.
On the mound, senior
Brandon Tucker (3-1) earned the W after one inning of work. Senior
Austin Southcott drew the start, scattering ten hits, four earned runs and one strike out. Junior
Chris Davidson retired four batters via strikes after 4.0 innings of work.
Game two of Saturday's doubleheader will be completed on Sunday at noon after the teams were able to get in six innings before dark today. The RedStorm currently hold a 7-6 lead. Levine is on the bump for WVU Tech while Rio has freshman Zach Harvey throwing for them.
The teams will then complete the four-game series of the KIAC Games of the Week with two more contests in East Bank, West Virginia Sunday.
