SMITHERS, West Virginia — The WVU Tech softball team defeated Ohio Christian University 13-5 (six innings) after falling to the Trailblazers 7-6 in game one of a doubleheader KIAC series Saturday afternoon. The Golden Bears are now 20-25, 9-7 (KIAC) while the Trailblazers hold a record of 13-28-1, 7-11 (KIAC).
Senior
Genna Trippett finished 4-for-6 at the plate with four RBI, two home runs, three runs scored and a sacrifice fly while also marking her third career stolen base to lead the team. Trippett has 16 home runs this season and has recorded 22 as a Golden Bear.
In the series finale, junior
Mackenzie Wilson (9-8) recorded a season-high ten strike outs. Wilson pitched a complete game and recorded the win in the circle after scattering six hits and five earned runs while walking two Trailblazers.

Ohio Christian managed four runs off of three hits and a Golden Bear error in the top of the seventh to get on top 7-6 which led to their eventual victory. The Golden Bears were held hitless in the final inning of game one to give Ohio Christian their seventh KIAC victory this season.

Kayla Jones, along with Trippett, had a multi-hit game, finishing 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and a run scored.

Freshman
Skylar Connelly and Blythe both posted a RBI towards Tech's five runs batted in. Trippett accounted for the other three off of her home runs.
Trippett drew the start, pitching 2.1 innings while recording three of each, hits, earned runs, walks and strike outs. Freshman
Becky Rusch (0-1) was dealt the loss after four innings in the circle. Rusch finished with three hits, three earned runs and two strike outs.

Jones, Blythe, Wilson and sophomore
MiKayla Craze drove in two runs each in Tech's 13-5 six inning win during the night cap.
Craze finished with three hits including a double while Blythe was was 2-for-3 with a double and a triple. Craze also recorded three runs scored.
Sophomore
Kayla Harbin and
Baylee Harless both had a double and two runs scored.
The team will finish their KIAC regular-season schedule tomorrow, Sunday when they play host to No. 24 University of Rio Grande in a doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m.
Blythe will be celebrated for Senior Day in Smithers, West Virginia prior to the first pitch.
