OWENSBORO, Kentucky — The WVU Tech (20-27, 9-9 KIAC) softball team will enter the 2016 KIAC Softball Tournament as the No. 5 seed and are set to face No. 4 Carlow University (22-10, 10-8 KIAC) in the first round this Friday at 11 a.m.
The eight-team, double-elimination tournament will be held Friday-Saturday at Panther Creek Park in Owensboro, Kentucky. The champion will advance to the NAIA Softball National Championships Opening Round with an automatic bid.
During the regular season, the teams split a doubleheader hosted by the Golden Bears in Smithers, West Virginia. The Celtics defeated Tech 6-5 in game one before the Gold and Blue took the final contest, 6-2. Junior
Mackenzie Wilson (8-9) threw to a win and complete game in the night cap, finishing with five strike outs while giving up seven hits.
Senior
Genna Trippett currently leads the KIAC in RBI with 48, averaging 1.09 a game while Carlow's Kelsey Geyer leads the conference with 40 hits, .471 a game.
