EAST BANK, West Virginia — WVU Tech baseball earned a doubleheader sweep against the University of Pikeville in mid-week action Wednesday afternoon. The Golden Bears (20-12) defeated the Bears (19-15) 9-6 before taking the final game 2-1 in eight innings.
In the first win, Tech saw three consecutive home runs from junior
Brady Groesbeck, freshman
Roy Suzuki and senior
Dylan Harvey, knotting the score 6-6 in the bottom of the fourth to help towards the eventual victory while freshman
Trey Dalton (1-0) earned his first collegiate win on the mound.
Game two was settled in extra innings as junior
Tanner Levine (1-1-1) pitched his way to a win and delivered the game-winning hit that drove in Suzuki. Levine put in one inning of work on the mound and struck out one batter in his first win this season.

The Gold and Blue managed 11 hits including three dingers and two doubles against the Bears. Groesbeck, Suzuki, Levine and senior
Josh Hudson finished with two hits each to lead the offense for Tech.
Junior
Sebastian Gomez Herrera and Hudson hit the doubles and also marked a RBI each while junior
Marcus Rodriguez brought in two runs on one hit.
Dalton threw for 3.0 innings, scattering two hits and one strike out. Senior
Tommy Weaver drew the start on the hill, giving up four hits and four earned runs while retiring a Bear on strikes.

Levine had a standout game for Tech, producing another multi-hit (2) game while driving in the game-winning score and stealing a base on offense. On the mound, he struck out one batter after one inning for his first victory this season.
Senior
Doug Prather helped plate Tech's first score with a sacrifice fly to center field, driving in junior
Trevor Lam who reached base with a double to left center.
Senior
Brandon Tucker threw the first 5.2 innings of the game, giving up six hits and just one earned run. Tucker also struck out two batters. Junior
Austin Southcott pitched 1.1 innings for Tech, posting one strike out.
Weather pending, the team will return to the field this Friday and Saturday as the play host to Asbury University in a four-game series. The first pitch of the doubleheaders on both days is scheduled for 1 p.m.
