KIAC Baseball Tournament: Schedule, Pairings, Coverage

KINGSPORT, Tennessee — The 2016 KIAC Baseball Tournament is May 4-7 in Kingsport, Tennessee, and hosted by Hunter Wright Stadium and the Kingsport Convention and Visitor's Bureau.

The six-team, double-elimination tournament will have its champion qualify for the NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round May 17-20 at campus sites around the country. Hunter Wright Stadium is one of the nine NAIA Opening Round host sites once again this year.

The KIAC Game Central presented by Stretch Internet will provide live streaming video of all games of the KIAC Baseball Tournament. Subscriptions available for $19.99 for the entire tournament (10-11 Games). That's less than $2.00 per game. Single-game subscriptions available for $7.95.

The all-access pass to the KIAC Game Central for all KIAC championship events throughout the 2015-16 year is $49.99. Stretch Internet is the official video provider of the KIAC and the NAIA. Subscribe at http://portal.stretchinternet.com/KIAC.

Live Stats webcasts will be available for all games of the KIAC Baseball Tournament via Dakstats at the link above. Live stats will also be available on the KIAC Game Central portal. 

No. 1 seed IU Southeast (38-11, 27-1 KIAC), ranked No. 23 this week in the NAIA Baseball Top 25 Poll, begins the tournament with the first game versus No. 6 Brescia (Ky.) University (11-41, 7-19 KIAC) on Wednesday, May 4 at 11 a.m. IU Southeast beat Brescia four times this year.

No. 2 WVU Tech (38-14, 21-7 KIAC), a new member to the KIAC this year, plays the second game versus No. 5 Asbury (Ky.) University (22-27, 12-16 KIAC) on May 4 at 3 p.m. The Golden Bears swept all four games over the Eagles at home.

No. 3 Point Park (Pa.) University (28-22, 20-8 KIAC) plays No. 4 University of Rio Grande (Ohio) (33-22, 17-11 KIAC) under the lights for the final game of the first day at 7 p.m. The Pioneers and RedStorm split the season series, 2-2.

The tournament features three games each day Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with game times of 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. The first two days will follow a set bracket, but Friday's matchups are TBA based on the number of teams remaining after Thursday. 

The championship round begins on Saturday, May 7 at 11 a.m. with a second championship round, if necessary, to follow at 3 p.m. All games will be nine innings. 

Hunter Wright Stadium is a Minor League Baseball facility and home to the Kingsport Mets. It is named for the popular multi-term former mayor. It was built in 1995, the stadium seats 2,500. It is also one of the nine sites awarded a host bid for the NAIA Baseball Opening Round this year to be played there May 17-20.
