WVU Tech Splits Tri-Match at Baisi Athletic Center

MONTGOMERY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech volleyball split a pair of matches Saturday at the Tech Tri-Match in the Baisi Athletic Center with River States Conference (RSC) foe Ohio Christian University (0-3) and  The Crown College (3-0). The Golden Bears boost their record to 3-2 overall while the Trailblazers hold a 2-0 record and Crown falls to 0-2.

Tech fell to Ohio Christian 27-25, 23-25, 20-25 before defeating the Royal Crusaders 25-11, 25-7, 25-12.

Match One | WVU Tech 0, Ohio Christian 3 | Box Score

In a non-conference match-up Ohio Christian, recently ranked No. 8 in the RSC Coaches' Preseason Poll, defeated Tech in three sets where junior Bailey Lotozo led the Golden Bears and the game with 14 kills. Freshman Carolina Bologna posted nine kills while sophomore Kayla Hill had six.

Freshman Konstantina Pateli had a match-high 38 assists to go with nine digs, three kills and a solo block. Sophomore Ana Monteiro posted 19 digs and three kills.

Pateli is currently ranked No. 3 in the nation (NAIA DI) for 1.550 service aces per game and 20 total service aces.

Match Two | WVU Tech 3, Crown 0 | Box Score

Sophomore Ana Monteiro produced a career-high 13 kills to lead the match against The Crown College. Lotozo brought her Tri-Match total to 24 kills with ten in the night cap while freshman Emily Kidd hit a match-high .875 (7-for-8).

Pateli handled the ball again with 33 assists while senior Michala Dean led on defense with nine digs.

The team will return to the court on Thursday, September 1 when they host Salem International in the Baisi Athletic Center at 6 p.m.
