WVU Tech men's basketball have won their last five River States Conference match-ups and their fourth consecutive contest after defeating the University of Rio Grande 82-69 Saturday afternoon. The Golden Bears boost their record to 13-5, 6-1 (RSC) while the RedStorm fall to 5-14, 2-5 (RSC).
Tech is now second in the East Division of the conference, just a half a game back from No. 11 Indiana University East (16-5, 7-1 RSC). The next conference member out is Ohio Christian University (10-10, 4-3 RSC) who is 2.5 games back from the top spot.
The Golden Bears were led by junior
Elisha Boone who earned his sixth double-double of the season with a game-high 24 points, 11 rebounds effort. Boone finished 8-for-9 from the bonus line and 8-for-13 from the floor.
Junior
Michael Scott shot clean Saturday, finishing 6-for-6 from the field and 3-for-3 from beyond the arc towards his 15 points. Scott also pulled down eight boards.
The RedStorm were led by Will Hill who had 23 points on 4-for-9 shooting from three-point range.
As a team, the Gold and Blue finished 56.4 percent (31-for-55) from the field while Rio Grande was held to 40.3 percent (25-for-62) shooting. Tech outrebounded their opponent, 39-28 while also holding the advantage in bench points, 42-7.
Tech will look to continue this winning streak when they travel to Asbury University Tuesday, January 17.
