WILMORE, Kentucky -- WVU Tech women's basketball had a three-game winning streak snapped Tuesday evening after falling 90-81 at Asbury University in River States Conference play. The Golden Bears now hold a record of 12-7, 4-4 (RSC) while the Eagles jump to 9-11, 4-5 (RSC) this season.
Sophomore
Savannah Shamblin shot 68.8 percent (11-for-16) from the floor towards her game-high 24 points to go with three assists, a rebound and a steal.
Junior
Zjhane West finished with 17 points while sophomore
Alexandra Combs poured in 16 points including a 4-for-6 effort from three-point range for the Golden Bears. West also pulled down four rebounds while Combs grabbed three steals.
Senior
Cheyanna Lusk and freshman
Laura Requena led under the boards for Tech, pulling down six rebounds each. Requena also contributed seven points while Lusk had two.
Tech held their opponent to 48.3 percent (28-for-58) shooting from the field compared to their 52.2 percent (35-for-67) effort. The Eagles made up for that difference at the bonus line, finishing 25-for-28 (89.3 percent) while the Golden Bears finished 5-for-7 (71.4 percent). Asbury also held the advantage in rebounds, 37-28.
The team will continue RSC play when they travel to Kentucky again this week to face Midway University Saturday, January 21.
