WVU Tech defeated at Davis & Elkins College

ELKINS, West Virginia -- The WVU Tech men's basketball team was unable to overcome the 37-36 edge NCAA DII opponent Davis & Elkins College held at the half as it fell in non-conference play 84-72 Tuesday evening in Elkins, West Virginia. The loss snapped the team's five-game winning streak that began December 6, 2016 against Kentucky Christian University (81-59).

The Golden Bears (9-5) trailed the Senators (5-9) the entire second half including the biggest lead held by D&E during the contest of 15 points (84-69) with 2:24 left to play. Tech is 0-2 against the Senators this season after also suffering a 98-92 loss in the Baisi Athletic Center November 2.

Junior Ryan Atkins led tech in scoring with 16 points on 7-for-8 shooting from the foul line. Fellow classmate Elisha Boone connected for 11 points to go with a team-high five rebounds while freshman Junior Arrey finished with ten points.

Senior Hunter Moles posted nine points while dishing a game-high five assists and pulling down four boards.

Tech shot 48.2 percent (27-for-56) from the field while the Senators finished 57.7 percent (30-for-52). D&E also held the advantage in rebounds (32-29), points off turnovers (30-21), second chance points (11-7) and fast break points (10-2).

The Gold and Blue showed their strengths compared to the Senators in bench points (35-31) and points in the paint (42-38).

D&E's Kevin Bracy-Davis led all scorers with 26 points to go with eight rebounds. Trevor English had a game-best nine boards.

The Golden Bears will next host two River States Conference (RSC) match-ups in the Baisi Athletic Center starting off with No. 18 Indiana University Southeast (Friday, 8 p.m.) followed by Brescia University (Saturday, 3 p.m.).
