BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech women's soccer has moved into first place in the River States Conference after earning a 2-0 shutout over Asbury University Thursday evening. The Golden Bears boost their record to 11-5-1, 6-1-1 (RSC) while the Eagles hold a record of 11-4-1, 5-2-1.
Freshman
Johanna Ribacke struck first for the Gold and Blue, marking an unassisted goal in the 68
th minute. Ribacke followed up a blocked attempt to bend the ball over Asbury's keeper, marking her fifth goal this season.
Sophomore
Miriam Cortez recorded her first collegiate goal, also finding the back of the net unassisted after a put back off Asbury's save in minute 72.
The team tallied ten shots on frame compared to the Eagles' four. Freshman
Domenica Moncayo led Tech with three shots on goal while Ribacke finished with two.
Senior goalkeeper
Martha Reyna earned her fifth shutout of the season after four saves and 90 minutes of play. Asbury's keeper was forced to stop six Golden Bear attempts while allowing two goals.
The Golden Bears will finish their regular season Saturday, October 28 when they host Cincinnati Christian University for Senior Day.
