Volleyball Finishes Historic Season at RSC Tournament

RICHMOND, Indiana -- The WVU Tech volleyball team fell in a semifinal of the River States Conference (RSC) Tournament to Indiana University East, 3-1 (25-14, 25-15, 25-14), Saturday afternoon in Richmond, Indiana. The Golden Bears finish the season 24-14 overall, surpassing the record achieved in 2016 of 22 wins to mark another historical season.

IU East went on to be crowned the 2017 RSC Champions after defeating Indiana University Kokomo in the tournament final, 3-2. The Red Wolves hold an overall record of 20-18.

Tech was paced by junior Ana Monteiro who finished with a double-double effort of 17 digs and 12 kills. Sophomore Katelyn Byrd also recorded 12 kills after four sets.

Senior Bailey Lotozo and sophomore Carolina Bologna rounded out the team's top offensive contributors with nine kills each. Bologna assisted on five blocks while Lotozo had three to go with seven digs and a service ace.

On defense, freshman Sawyer Hawgood and sophomore Alice Amitrano made a difference in the back row, picking up 12 and 11 digs respectively.

Sophomore setter Konstantina Pateli dished 39 assists while marking seven digs, five kills and two service aces. The Athens, Greece native is currently (as of November 10) ranked No. 2 in the nation (NAIA) with 73 service aces, No. 21 with 1,253 total assists and .560 service aces per game and No. 44 with 9.640 assists per game.

As a team, WVU Tech is currently (as of November 10) ranked No. 19 in total assists (1,527), No. 22 in total kills (1,641), No. 24 in total service aces (221), No. 33 in hitting percentage (.220) and No. 46 in total digs (2,105).

Saturday marked the final collegiate match for one Golden Bear senior, Lotozo, who hails from Thornville, Ohio.
