BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech women's basketball dropped a thriller in the final seconds to Mount Vernon Nazarene University, 71-70, Tuesday evening in the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center. The Golden Bears are now 1-2 in this young season while the Cougars move to 2-1.
Tech was led by junior
Savannah Shamblin who poured in 16 points to go with five rebounds and three assists. Freshman
Brittney Justice recorded 15 points while junior
Alexandra Combs had 13 and sophomore
Logan Dudley marked 11 for the Gold and Blue.
Under the boards, sophomore
Laura Requena pulled down a game-high 14 while posting nine points. The Golden Bears blocked six shots as a team including three by senior
Zjhane West.
The Cougars finished 28-for-59 (47.5 percent) from the field while Tech went 26-for-69 (37.7 percent). The Gold and Blue held the advantage from beyond the arc, shooting 43.8 percent compared to their opponent's 16.7 percent.
Tech will return to action tomorrow, Wednesday when they travel to Bluefield College for a scheduled 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
