NEW ALBANY, Indiana — The WVU Tech men's basketball team, who is currently No. 20 in the NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll, fell to No. 18 Indiana University Southeast in a River States Conference (RSC) Tournament semifinal Saturday afternoon, 90-81.
The Golden Bears, who entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed (East Division), have a record of 23-8 this season and the No. 1 seed (West Division) Grenadiers are 24-5
Freshman
Junior Arrey led the Gold and Blue with 27 points on 10-for-20 shooting. Arrey also had three rebounds and two steals.
Junior
Elisha Boone poured in 15 points and pulled down six rebounds while fellow classmate
Ryan Atkins was one board away from a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds. Atkins also dished a team-high four assists.
Junior
Kievonn Banks was the final Golden Bear to hit double-digits against IU Southeast, recording 10 points to go with six rebounds.
Under the boards, senior
Patrick Gnagbo had eight rebounds while junior
Denzel Marshall had six boards in the loss.
Tech was held to just 38.8 percent (33-for-85) shooting from the floor and 20.0 percent (5-for-25) from beyond the arc. The Grenadiers finished 48.2 percent (27-for-56) from the field and 34.8 percent (8-for-23) from three-point range.
The Golden Bears did hold the advantage in rebounds (50-39), bench points (46-10), points off turnovers (17-11) and second chance points (18-6).
The team will find out next week, Wednesday, if they have earned a bid to compete in the NAIA National Tournament.
