WVU Tech drops doubleheader at Alderson Broaddus

PHILLIPI, West Virginia -- WVU Tech softball dropped a doubleheader at NCAA DII Alderson Broaddus University Wednesday with scores of 11-8 and 8-4. The Golden Bears are now 3-20 this season while the Battlers hold a record of 6-6.

The team finished with 11 hits in the loss including two doubles each from sophomore Skylar Connelly and junior MaKayla Waugh.

Waugh finished 3-for-3 at the dish with three runs scored and a RBI while Connelly was 3-for-4 with two RBI.

The remaining RBI were credited to junior Hannah Calhoun (2), freshman Annika Ponton and junior Kayla Jones.

In the circle, freshman Karina Atanacio (3-6) threw a complete game, scattering 13 hits and nine earned runs while striking out three Battlers.

Connelly led the Golden Bears with a 2-for-4 effort at the plate and two RBI. Jones, who was 1-for-3, marked the other RBI for Tech.

The runs were scored by senior Lexi Huck, who reached base with a double, freshman Madeline Olson, sophomore Sarah Dohn and Jones.

Senior Mackenzie Wilson (0-10) drew the start and put in 4.1 innings of work in the night cap for the loss. Wilson struck out two batters while giving up nine hits and five earned runs.

The team will return to River State Conference play Friday and Saturday when they travel to Ohio to face Cincinnati Christian University and Ohio Christian University.
