Softball earns RSC doubleheader sweep at Ohio Christian

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio -- WVU Tech softball is enjoying a three-game winning streak after sweeping River States Conference (RSC) opponent Ohio Christian University in a doubleheader Saturday. The Golden Bears (6-21, 3-1 RSC) took game one 9-1 after five innings before taking a 14-12 game two over the Trailblazers (2-12, 0-4 RSC).

Tech split a doubleheader at Cincinnati Christian Friday with scores of 1-9 and 9-8. Senior Genna Trippett knocked her fifth and sixth home runs of the season in the win, both bringing in two runs. The Parkersburg, West Virginia native also hit a two-run long ball in the 14-12 victory over OCU.

Trippett (1-2) earned her first win in the circle after pitching a complete game one against the Trailblazers. Freshman Karina Atanacio (5-7) picked up her fifth win after pitching for just one out in Tech's final game of the weekend.

The Gold and Blue tallied nine hits in the opener including two each from juniors MaKayla Waugh and Hannah Calhoun and Trippett. 

Waugh finished 2-for-2 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Trippett was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and a stolen base while Calhoun hit a triple in her 2-for-3 effort, recording a RBI and a run scored.

Trippett struck out two batters while giving up just one hit and one earned run.

Game Two | WVU Tech 14, Ohio Christian 12 | Box Score

Sophomore Skylar Connelly led the way with three hits, three RBI and two runs scored after five at bats.

Trippett was 1-for-3 at the dish with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored.

Senior Mackenzie Wilson recorded two RBI off of two hits while also crossing the plate twice herself.

Wilson finished out the game in the circle, scattering seven hits and five earned runs while striking out four Trailblazers after 6.2 innings. Atanacio gave up six hits and seven earned runs after facing seven batters.

WVU Tech will return to the field Friday, March 31 for their home opener when they host Brescia University for a RSC doubleheader. First pitch in Smithers, West Virginia is scheduled for 3 p.m.
