EAST BANK, West Virginia -- WVU Tech baseball earned a 5-0 shutout in game three and a 9-6 victory in the final contest, earning the series sweep (4-0) against Cincinnati Christian University to open up River States Conference play in 2017.
The Golden Bears (8-8, 4-0 RSC) defeated the Eagles (2-10, 0-4) 4-2 and 3-2 on Saturday in East Bank, West Virginia.
On the mound, senior
Chris Davidson (2-1) threw a complete game, scattering four hits while striking out five Eagles in the 5-0 shutout.
Freshman
Michael Rotenberry (1-0) earned his first collegiate win in the night cap, putting in 2.0 innings of work, giving up just three hits and no earned runs.
Redshirt junior
Garrison Vandeventer (0-1-3) recorded his third save of the weekend, pitching for the third out on bases loaded in the final game of the series.

The Golden Bears scored a quick three runs in the second inning and kept that momentum to take the game 5-0 after two more runs in the fourth.

Alex Kotheimer followed that up with a double that drove in junior
Abraham Alejandro for run two.
Senior
Brady Groesbeck's single helped cross Alejandro for the third and final run of the second inning.
Kotheimer singled to center field in the fourth inning to drive in senior
Trevor Lam and the fifth and final run came from a double from junior
Tanner Levine that crossed Groesbeck.
Kotheimer, Groesbeck and Levine had two hits each in the win while Kotheimer marked two RBI and Groesbeck and Levine had one each. The final Gold and Blue RBI came from Rodriguez.

Freshman
Jacob Reimold had a standout game, finishing 2-for-3 at the plate with four RBI and a run scored off of two doubles.
Levine and Groesbeck also marked doubles for the Golden Bears. Groesbeck drove in two runs while junior
Wyatt Belinda and Lam had a RBI each.
A Long Beach, California native, Levine marked three runs scored on a 1-for-1 effort at bat, including reaching the bases by balls three times. Levine also stole his sixth base of the season.
The team will next travel to Vero Beach, Florida to participate in the Historic Dodgertown Invitational where they will face Grace College and Penn State Brandywine on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.
