Golden Bears fall twice at No. 19 Rio Grande

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 RIO GRANDE, Ohio -- WVU Tech softball dropped a pair of River States Conference (RSC) games Sunday afternoon at No. 19 University of Rio Grande to finish out their regular season. The Golden Bears (14-35, 10-8 RSC) dropped the opener, 5-2, before falling in game two to the RedStorm (41-7, 17-1 RSC), 3-0.

After this weekend, the regular conference season is over and the Gold and Blue are No. 4 in the RSC standings at seven games back. Rio Grande is in the top spot with Midway University (12-6) and Indiana University Southeast (12-6) tied for second at five games back and Point Park University (11-7) is six games back at No. 3.

Stay tuned to goldenbearathletics.com for the time and opponent of Tech's RSC tournament. The conference finale is scheduled for May 5-6 and will be held at the Darrell Dotson Sports Complex at Jackson Park in Vienna, Virginia. The two days will consist of eight teams and double elimination.

Sophomore Skylar Connelly and junior Kayla Harbin had two hits each to lead the Golden Bears.

Freshman Karina Atanacio, junior Kayla Jones and senior Adriana Rosendo knocked one hit each.

The lone RBI for the Golden Bears was credited to Jones while Atanacio and Rosendo scored both of Tech's runs.

Freshman Sydney Smith drew the start in the circle, pitching 2.1 innings for the loss. Smith scattered four hits and two earned runs while striking out one RedStorm.

Senior Genna Trippett completed the game, throwing for 3.2 innings towards three hits and one earned run. Trippett also struck out three batters.

Tech tallied three hits in the nightcap including one each from Harbin, Jones and freshman Chelsey Adkins.

Atanacio was dealt the loss after pitching 5.2 innings for the Gold and Blue. She retired six RedStorm via strikes while giving up six hits and two earned runs.
