PIKEVILLE, Kentucky -- The WVU Tech baseball team defeated University of Pikeville 6-2 Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference match-up. The Golden Bears boost their record to 18-20 while the Bears move to 17-15.
Tech managed 11 hits in the win including a perfect 4-for-4 effort from senior
Chris Davidson. Davidson also marked a RBI in the win.
Fellow senior
Brady Groesbeck was the other Golden Bear with a multi-hit game, recording two.
The remaining RBI were credited to seniors
Tanner Levine,
Sebastian Gomez Herrera and
Trevor Lam and junior
Wyatt Belinda. Levine and Herrera both had a double for Tech.
Crossing the plate for the Gold and Blue were senior
Doug Prather (2), Levine (2), freshman
Jacob Reimold and Lam.
On the mound, senior
Marcus Rodriguez (3-0) picked up the W after four innings of work. Rodriguez gave up just two hits while striking out two batters.
Junior
Dalton Grisell (0-1-1) earned the save after facing one batter, forcing a double play to end the game.
The team will return to River States Conference (RSC) play when they host (RV) Indiana University Southeast Saturday and Sunday at Linda K. Epling Stadium in Beckley, West Virginia. The four-game series has been designated the RSC Games of the Week.
