MIDWAY, Kentucky -- WVU Tech women's soccer saw goals from freshmen
Johanna Ribacke (21'),
Meghan Rugel (66') and
Miranda Campbell (69' and 72') and sophomore
Victoria Ellis (89') as the Golden Bears took a 5-1 victory over Midway University to kick off River States Conference (RSC) play this season. Tech is now 6-4, 1-0 (RSC) in 2017 while the Eagles move to 4-1, 0-1 (RSC).
Scores from Rugel, Campbell and Ellis marked each of the Golden Bears first collegiate goals. Senior
Tyler Graves was credited with two assists (66' and 69') while junior
Brianna Enger also marked an assist (72').
As a team, Tech finished with 12 shots on goal compared to their opponent's six. The Gold and Blue were led by Campbell who had three shots on frame while Ribacke and fellow classmate
Meghan Goldman had two each.
After 90 minutes, senior goalkeeper
Martha Reyna (6-4) stopped five balls while allowing just one goal for the win.
The Eagles' keeper, Emily Belt, was forced to stop seven balls while allowing five goals Thursday.
Tech will continue conference play Saturday, September 30 when they travel to Brescia University for a 2 p.m. scheduled kickoff.
