OWENSBORO, Kentucky -- WVU Tech women's soccer earned their third consecutive victory with a 5-1 score over River States Conference (RSC) opponent Brescia University Saturday afternoon in Owensboro, Kentucky. The Golden Bears boost their record to 7-4, 2-0 (RSC) while the Bearcats stand at 1-10, 0-2 (RSC).
The Golden Bears were led by the combination of freshman
Meghan Rugel and sophomore
Clarice Taylor. Taylor marked her first and second collegiate assists by connecting with Rugel who scored in the fourth and 26
th minute.
Junior
Brianna Enger posted a goal and an assist during the RSC match-up, scoring off assistance from freshman
Johanna Ribacke (29') before setting up sophomore
Lorena Moyers (36') for Tech's fourth goal in the first half.
The fifth and final score for the Gold and Blue came from
Patricia Fisher who found the back of the net unassisted in the 81
st minute. Fisher, a Woodbridge, Virginia native, now has three goals in 2017.
Senior
Martha Reyna (7-4) and sophomore
MaKenna Blankenship split time protecting the net for the Golden Bears. Reyna was awarded the win, allowing just one goal while Blankenship recorded a save after 45 minutes of play.
Brescia's keepers also split time in goal with Jerrica Kid making 12 saves while Jordan Blemker had two.
Tech held the advantage in shots over the Bearcats, 32 (19) - 2 (2), and corner kicks, 5-1.
The Golden Bears hope to keep this momentum rolling next week for Homecoming as they host RSC foe's Indiana University East (Thursday) and Ohio Christian University (Saturday).
