Tech defeats Shaw and Salem International at Concord Classic

Volleyball

ATHENS, West Virginia -- The WVU Tech volleyball team finished 2-0 Friday at the Concord Classic with wins over Shaw University then Salem International University in Athens, West Virginia. The Golden Bears have improved their record to 9-1 this season after set scores of 25-20, 25-12 and 25-23 vs. Shaw and 25-17, 25-15 and 25-13 against Salem International.

Senior Bailey Lotozo (17), junior Ana Monteiro (15), freshman Lauren McCall (15) and sophomore Carolina Bologna (13) had standout days on the attack for Tech.

Freshman libero Sawyer Hawgood marked 23 digs to lead the defense while sophomore Konstantina Pateli produced a team-best 59 assists.

Bologna and Pateli both finished with five service aces each. Pateli, an Athens, Greece native, is currently No. 7 in the nation (NAIA) for assists per game (10.760) and No. 15 in service aces per game (0.680).

As a team, the Gold and Blue hold two top 20 rankings in the NAIA including No. 10 in hitting percentage (0.256) and No. 17 in service aces per game (2.410).

Tech will finish their time at the Concord Classic tomorrow, Saturday when they face Ohio Valley University and West Virginia Wesleyan University.
