BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech men's basketball pulled out a 91-90 victory over (RV) Asbury University Thursday evening in the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center. The River States Conference (RSC) win boosts the Golden Bears' record to 11-8, 5-3 (RSC) while the Eagles move to 12-7, 5-4 (RSC).
As of January 18, the Gold and Blue hold second place in the RSC East, 2.5 games behind No. 3 Indiana University East (7-0). Carlow University (3-3 RSC) sits behind Tech at 3.5 games back.
Freshman
Andreas Jönsson poured in a career-high 24 points to lead the team including a 7-for-10 effort from beyond the arc.
Junior
Brandon Shingles finished 5-for-10 from three-point range towards 22 points while marking six rebounds, five assists and two steals. Shingles also hit the jumper that put Tech over the edge for the win, knocking down a shot with 11 seconds left to play and lifting Tech to the 91-90 W.
Junior
Thomas Collins recorded 15 points, seven rebounds, one assist and one steal. Senior
Michael Scott had 12 points and three rebounds.
Junior
Cole Schoolcraft passed out a game-best eight assists with no turnovers and had five rebounds. Freshman
Tamon Scruggs pulled down seven boards to go with four points and a block.
Tech and Asbury were almost equal on the floor, finishing 42.5 percent (31-for-73) and 42.4 percent (28-for-66) respectively.
The squad will stay at home for their next contest to host Midway University Saturday, January 20 at 3 p.m.
