RIO GRANDE, Ohio -- In a River States Conference (RSC) contest, WVU Tech women's soccer fell at University of Rio Grande, 2-1, Thursday evening. The Golden Bears move to 6-5, 3-3 (RSC) while the RedStorm improve to 5-7-1, 3-3 (RSC).
All scores were recorded in the second half including the equalizer in minute 76 from sophomore
Meghan Rugel. Rugel found the back of the net off the perfect pass from senior
Lorena Moyers.
Rio's first goal came in minute 49 from Payten Davis and the winning goal was posted with just one minute left to play in regulation from the same RedStorm player, Davis.
The teams were almost even in shots with nine each while Tech had six on frame and Rio had five on goal. Rugel and Moyers finished with a team-best two shots on goal each.
Freshman keeper
Jenna Miller protected the net for 90 minutes in the loss. Miller made three stops while allowing two goals. Rio's keeper, Andrea Vera, played a complete game and was forced to make five Golden Bear stops while allowing one goal.
The team returns to play October 20 for Senior Day when they host Ohio Christian University for more conference play in Beckley, West Virginia.
