WVU Tech takes 3-2 conference victory from Brescia

BECKLEY, West Virginia -- The WVU Tech volleyball team finished with a 3-2 River States Conference (RSC) victory over Brescia University Friday evening in Van Meter Gym. The Golden Bears boost their record to 23-7, 7-4 (RSC) while the Bearcats move to 15-15, 5-5 (RSC).

Tech is holding at No 3 in the RSC East, just two matches back from No. 1 IU East (9-2) and one contest back from Point Park University (7-2). Tomorrow (Saturday) the Gold and Blue will host IU Southeast (19-6, 6-4 RSC) who is currently No. 3 in the RSC West.

Junior Katelyn Byrd put down 17 kills for a match-best while junior Carolina Bologna and freshman Valentina Abondano both tallied 12 kills. Byrd also had an assist, a block solo and a dig.

Abondano finished with a double-double after 18 digs and the kills to go with two assists. Bologna had five digs, three block solos and a service ace.

Junior Konstantina Pateli posted 48 assists to go with seven digs, two service aces and a block solo.

Sophomore libero Sawyer Hawgood marked a team-best 19 digs while also recording two service aces and an assist.

Senior Ana Monteiro picked up 14 digs and had ten kills. Junior Alice Amitrano posted seven digs in the win.

Junior Emily Kidd had a match-high four block solos to go with five kills, two digs and a block assist.
