BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech volleyball celebrated seniors
Kayla Hill and
Ana Monteiro before scoring a 3-0 sweep against River States Conference (RSC) opponent Ohio Christian University Friday evening. After scores of 25-16, 25-21 and 25-15, the Golden Bears boost their record to 25-8, 8-5 while the Trailblazers move to 2-18, 1-12.
Monteiro finished the match with 11 kills while Hill posted six kills to lead the attack for Tech. Monteiro also recorded six digs, five service aces (she is now ranked No. 49 in the NAIA in total service aces with 46) and a block solo while Hill had two block solos, a block assist and a dig.
Juniors
Emily Kidd and
Carolina Bologna had five kills each while Kidd also had a block solo, a block assist and two digs.
Bologna marked four digs, two assists, a service ace, a block solo and a block assist. She is currently ranked No. 41 in total blocks in the nation (NAIA).
Leading the back row defense was sophomore libero
Sawyer Hawgood who picked up a match-high 11 digs to go with a service ace. Freshman
Valentina Abondano tallied ten digs and one kill.
Junior
Konstantina Pateli bumped her season total to 1,112 assists after posting a match-best 33 Friday. She also had four digs, four kills and a service ace. Currently, Pateli is ranked No. 11 in the nation (NAIA) in total assists and No. 26 in assists per game (9.720).
Tomorrow Tech will finish out its home schedule with a match against Indiana University East at 12 p.m. in Van Meter Gym.
