BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech women's basketball opened its season with a 48-44 victory over Bluefield College (Virginia) Tuesday evening the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center. Seventeen points in the fourth quarter lifted Tech past the Rams for the victory.
Senior
Savannah Shamblin led the game with 17 points including a 3-for-4 effort at the bonus line. Shamblin also pulled down five rebounds and had five assists with zero turnovers.
Sophomore
Brittney Justice also hit double-digits in scoring, pouring in 13 points for the Gold and Blue. She was just one rebound from a double-double with nine boards to go with three steals and two assists.
Senior
Alexandra Combs and junior
Laura Requena knocked down five points each while Requena had a team-best ten rebounds and Combs had five. The pair had two steals each while Requena also marked an assist.
Under the boards, junior
Logan Dudley and sophomore
Whittney Justice had four rebounds each while Dudley also posted four points.
As a team, Tech finished 18-for-63 (.286) from the field while the Rams went 18-for-55 (.327). The Gold and Blue did hold the advantage in rebounds, 47-40.
The Golden Bears will tip off next at University of the Cumberlands this Thursday, November 1 in Williamsburg, Kentucky.
