BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech volleyball earned a 3-0 River States Conference (RSC) victory over University of Rio Grande Tuesday evening in Van Meter Gym. The Golden Bears boost their record to 21-6, 5-3 (RSC) while the RedStorm move to 6-15, 2-6 (RSC).
Tech took the first set 25-13 followed by scores of 25-9 and 25-20 for the match sweep.
As a team, the Gold and Blue finished 39-for-88 towards a .284 hitting percentage while the RedStorm were held to a 17-for-85 effort of -.035 percent.
Senior
Ana Monteiro led the attack with 13 kills towards a .591 hitting percentage. Monteiro also tallied five digs, two service aces, an assist and a block assist.
Juniors
Katelyn Byrd and
Carolina Bologna followed Monteiro on the attack with eight and seven kills respectively. Bologna also posted four digs, three block solos, two block assists and a service ace while Byrd had one of each in a block solo, block assist and assist.
Sophomore
Michaela Hall and junior
Konstantina Pateli put back two block solos each while junior
Emily Kidd had one. Kidd also hit .500 with three kills.
Pateli posted a match-best 32 assists while freshman
Valentina Abondano picked up a team-high 12 digs. Pateli had nine digs while Abondano had two service aces and a kill.
Tech continues its seven-match home stand this Friday in Beckley when they host Asbury University at 7 p.m.
