RIO GRANDE, Ohio -- WVU Tech men's soccer was down 3-0 at the half in the final of the River States Conference (RSC) Championship before staging a comeback to force overtime, knotted 3-3, with the RedStorm. Rio pulled out the win 4-3, after the golden goal came from Eduardo Zurita in the 100
th minute.
Rio posted its first three goals in the first half from Nicolas Cam Orellana (23'), Harry Reilly (30') and Mitchell Osmond (34').
Tech then tallied the next three scores, beginning with freshman
Jaime Rodriguez's 11
th goal in 2018. Rodriguez found the back of the net off a perfect pass from senior
Sergio Sanchez in minute 50.
The Golden Bears then saw a goal from Sanchez in the 77
th minute off the assistance of junior
Eduardo Gutierrez.
Tech's equalizer came from sophomore
Cristian Cubedo Aymerich who connected with junior
Allan Costa with just four minutes left in regulation, eventually forcing the game to overtime.
An unassisted goal in overtime from Zurita took the game to its final 4-3 score, finishing the conference championship.
As a team, the Gold and Blue finished with nine shots on frame while Rio had seven. Rodriguez marked a team-best three shots on goal.
In goal, junior
Jorge Martinez made three saves while allowing four goals after protecting the net for a full game. Rio's Richard Dearle was forced to make six stops and allowed three goals.
Rio has earned a bid to the NAIA National Tournament and the Golden Bears will be looking to earn a bid into the tournament which will be announced at a later date. Stay tuned to
