Grapplers drop home opener to Ohio Valley University

BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech wrestling dropped a close match to Ohio Valley University, 27-24, to open its home schedule Friday evening in Van Meter Gym.

The Golden Bears move to 1-1 in duals this season while the Fighting Scots go to 1-0.

Tech won four of eight bouts fought out on the mat including a pin (6:57) from senior Tristan Bean (133 lbs.) who wrestled Dylan Dennison.

Sophomore Logan Robertson (141 lbs.) posted a technical fall (17-0) over Hauoli Caparida.

Freshman Tucker Lawson (174 lbs.) earned a 5-2 decision over Hunter Moore.

Fellow freshman Vincent DeVaney (197 lbs) also recorded a decision (7-2) over Tyler Koreski.

The Gold and Blue will return to action Sunday when they participate in the U.S. Marine Corps Star City Open in Salem, Virginia.
