Baseball opens season with doubleheader at St. Andrews

LAURINBURG, North Carolina -- WVU Tech baseball opened their 2018 campaign at St. Andrews University Saturday afternoon, dropping a doubleheader with scores of 8-2 and 10-5. The Golden Bears will complete the four-game series in Laurinburg, North Carolina Sunday.

The Golden Bears managed five hits in the loss including two from redshirt senior Garrison Vandeventer. Vandeventer, who marked a double, also drove in a run for the Golden Bears.

Senior Wyatt Belinda posted a hit and a run while sophomore Jacob Reimold also crossed the plate for the Gold and Blue. Sophomore Brian Schack marked a steal.

Senior Jerod Jobst (0-1) earned the start and was dealt the loss on the mound after 3.0 innings of work including two strike outs and three earned runs. Junior Juan Perez finished out the game, giving up three hits and two earned runs while striking out one Knight.

Tech scored five runs on six hits including a homerun and a double from Reimold who finished with two hits, two runs scored and two RBI.

Belinda and freshman Alex Tennant also had two hits each while Belinda marked a run scored and a RBI and Tennant brought in two runs. Junior Corey Lewis stole a base for Tech.

Senior Dalton Grisell (0-1) pitched 0.1 innings for the loss, giving up three earned runs. Freshman Brett Linton pitched 5.0 innings after the start, striking out five batters while giving up three hits and one earned run.
