BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech women's basketball celebrated their seniors,
Melissa Bakowski,
Brett Justice and
Zjhane West and the Golden Bears ended the regular season with a 108-93 victory over Point Park University Saturday. The River States Conference (RSC) win boosts Tech's record to 18-12, 12-5 (RSC) while the Pioneers move to 17-10, 12-5 (RSC).
West and sophomore
Laura Requena led all scorers with 20 points each. The duo also finished with a double-double each as Requena pulled down 16 boards and West had 10 rebounds. Requena marked four assists and three steals while West recorded five assists and two steals.
Freshman
Brittney Justice poured in 19 points to go with five rebounds and three steals. Sophomore
Katelyn Byrd rounded out Tech's top offensive contributors with 11 points while grabbing seven rebounds and dishing a game-best seven assists.
Bakowski matched her season-high with six rebounds while Justice finished with five rebounds. The seniors also had two points and an assist each.
As a team, Tech dominated the boards with 62 while the Pioneers managed 33. The Gold and Blue shot 48.9 percent (44-for-90) from the field while Point Park finished at 42.3 percent (30-for-71).
Up next, No. 3 East WVU Tech will travel to No. 2 West Indiana University Southeast (18-11) for the first round of the RSC Tournament. The Golden Bears are scheduled to play the Grenadiers Wednesday, February 21 at 5:30 p.m. in New Albany, Indiana. During the regular season, Tech fell to IU Southeast in Indiana, 80-54 (January 4).
