NEW ALBANY, Indiana -- (No. 3 East) WVU Tech women's basketball earned an upset River States Conference (RSC) tournament quarterfinal victory at (No. 2 West) Indiana University Southeast, 70-59. The Golden Bears (19-12) will next face (No. 1 East) University of Rio Grande (28-3) Saturday, February 24 in a semifinal scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
The Gold and Blue met Rio during the regular season January 13 in Charleston, West Virginia, falling 78-61. The RedStorm are currently ranked No. 22 in the nation (NAIA DII) and defeated (No. 4 West) Brescia University, 80-63, to host the semifinal.
In Wednesday night's win, Tech's defense held the Grenadiers to just 34.5 percent (20-for-58) shooting from the field and forced 21 turnovers. IU Southeast also only managed a 20.0 percent (4-for-20) effort from three-point range.
The Golden Bears recorded 12 steals as a team including a team-best four from junior
Alexandra Combs and three each from senior
Zjhane West and junior
Savannah Shamblin.
Shamblin came off the bench to pour in 18 points to lead Tech including three made from beyond the arc. West posted eight points, three assists and two rebounds.
Combs recorded 12 points and eight rebounds while sophomore
Laura Requena finished with a double-double of 13 rebounds and ten points.

Logan Dudley pulled down seven boards to go with five points.
As a team, Tech shot 42.4 percent (28-for-66) from the field while grabbing 42 rebounds and marking 21 points off of turnovers.
